History

Abbey Regional Addiction Service (ARAS) was established in March 2008 as a result of two organisations merging, Kildare West Wicklow Community Addiction Team (KWWCAT) and the Abbey Project.

The company known now as Kildare West Wicklow Community Addiction Service Limited (KWWCAS Ltd), trading as ARAS  was originally set up by the South Western Regional Drugs Task Force (SWRDTF) to work with drug users and their families, and to develop high quality, professional treatment and rehabilitation services.

To address drink and drug misuse among adolescents, the SWRDTF also developed the HALO project. This is a successful agency based in Naas and serving the local region.  HALO offers advice on the services and treatment options available for young people with alcohol or drug addiction.
